Unofficial Face of Web 2.0 Dies at 17
As reported by MSNBC.com the face of web 2.0 died August 3rd 2007 (A little late I know). The Internet Superstar Lonelygirl15 drew in over 1,000,000 viewers worldwide and was deffinately a deciding factor in Google's purchase of Youtube.com for $1.65 billion. Pretty amazing for a 17 year old girl no? I thought so. The article goes on to give us the details of her death..The girl fell victim to a vicious cult who drained her blood. Sound outrageous yet? I thought this was a pretty neat ordeal. The smash hit in 2006 "Lonelygirl15" was nothing more than a production by a group of filmakers from California. Youtube.com asked for more creative and substantial material to better entertain beyond the bootleg music videos and TV show clips. And they got from the makers of "Lonelygirl15". In closing, and I quote from msnbc.com "You know it just sucks, because there are so many people who made video responses to lonelygirl’s videos and you know what, they’re gonna feel stupid now because they got caught up in the drama and said everything about Bree was bull…"
but what really sucks is that they were such a big influence on youtube and didn't get squat.

Kids these days...
Remember when kids used to go to school, learn, hang out at the local gas station that tolerated their loitering, see a movie and the most stress that was in their life was breaking up? That doesn't seem to be the case now-a-days. Multiple mass school shootings that occured in just the past few years, it seems like there is atleast one or two that we hear about every year as of recent. Truth be told if I was still in school I'd be worried sick as to if I was going to acctually get to go home that day. There were four teens arrested just the other day for murder. The victim 35 year old Romonda Mitchell. The reason, get this, an argument over who has the better football team. I mean, I've heard about murduring someone over money, drugs, etc. but a high school football team? Is this really the generation that is supposed to take care of us? The suspects were all seniors, the youngest 18 the oldest 19. And none of them are going to get a diploma this year due to their cold blooded "temper-tantrum". What is going on in the minds of these people now-a-days? Is it really things like video games, music, and films? To be honest I don't doubt that these things influence us, but I believe the reality of things is the role models these kids have. (Not putting anyone down) Abusive parents, divorce is highly common, cheating on your spouse seems to be the new "thing" to do. But the biggest influence is celebrities. Sounds silly I know but everyone when they were younger idolized a celebrity. And kids today are no different. They want to "be-like" somebody. And these days we seem to be idolizing the wrong people. Fifty-cent, Snoop-Dogg (hey, great musicians but lets look at the facts) are just a few I can think of off the top of my head (I'm sure there are others from all other forms of music too, these are just all I can think of at the time) that we all know to be, or have been gangsters. Other celebrities talk about gang activities, shooting, packing heat, etc etc. Were these kids influenced by these things? I'm sure they were, along with all kinds of other people from this area. Crime is steadily increasing each day here and everybody seems to just go about their business like nothing has happened. I hope that this is a wake-up call to our tri-county community.
